The Little Red Cape

The Little Red Cape by SPYKEEE

You could be forgiven for thinking that this tee is based on the Red Riding Hood story. In fact it is actually based on Charles Guyot's the Granddaughter Of Red Riding Hood. In this story Reds granddaughter finds the old wolf, befriends it and makes him her pet. I love how ferocious the wolf looks, which is a great contrast to the serenity of the girl in red. The artwork itself is superb with the sheer amount of detail really bringing life to the image using a limited color palette.

This tshirt is available from Designs By Humans. Click on the picture for more info.

Keep A Breast

Keep A Breast from KKBB Apparel

I thought it was about time for another tee for the denial files. It is a real pity that this has been sold out because not only is it a super cool design, it raised money and awareness for the Keep a Breast Foundation. That is a double win in my book.

Pickled Punk

Pickled Punk by deekin

I really love tshirts that come out of left field and catch me by surprise. The idea of having a baby growing inside you that has been projected onto the tee is really cool. Having that baby be badass is something else again. It already has a heap of tattoos and its bald head resembles a shaved head on an adult. Perhaps it represents the child inside all of us.

This tee is available via zazzle in a wide range of styles and colors. Click on the picture for more information.

Holy Suicide

Holy Suicide by Evergrunge

I am a big fan of photo manipulation artworks. When done well they are stunning. You don't usually see them on tshirts, which as this one shows is a shame. The level of detail here is just incredible. All of her prayers are coming to life and exploding from her head. It is a great representation of a chaotic thought process which contrasts nicely with the serenity of prayer. The simple color palette does a great job of unifying all the different elements and keeps it from becoming too overpowering.

This tee is available from ARDT. Click on the picture to be redirected to the website.

Ninjas

A Little Too Raph from Pause

This is really simple. Ninjas are cool. Cartoons are cool. Put the two together and you are guaranteed coolness. I really like the way the ropes come down off the shoulder and the characters are over to the side. It is a really unusual use of space making this tee stand out from the crowd.

This tshirt is available from Pause in both womens and mens styles.

The Architect

The Architect from Allmightys

This is a really interesting sci fi style tee. The futuristic city seems to be expanding, almost organically. The cycloptic architect is walking toward the end of a walkway which gives the feeling that it is growing in front of him. I like the idea that the city evolves where he goes as per his thoughts. The simple color palette works really well as it forces you to look closer to discover all the details.

This tshirt is available now from Allmightys. Click on the picture for more information.

T-SHIRT WAR!! (stop-motion music video)

As it is Christmas I thought it would be a good time to sit on our asses and watch a video. Enjoy.

Courage

Courage from Cherry Sauce

This tee is so cool. It is like wearing saturday morning cartoons on your chest. It just brings out the child in me (not that it takes much). Even better is the fact that five dollars from each shirt sold is donated to the Alberta Cancer Foundation to support those receiving treatment. You get to look cool and help others - double win.

This tshirt is available in a range of colors. Click on the picture for more info.

Vicar

Vicar from Panic Pop

Crazy doodle style designs have long been a staple of the tshirt world and this is one of the best I have seen in quite some time. Called the Vicar it seems to portray rebirth. The four arms, alcohol and mass of tattoos are a nice representation of today's fast paced manic world. Being cut in half and having arrows shot into his head have killed that life. While the two normal eyes have the traditional cross of death over them, the third eye is wide open. He has awoken to a higher perception or whatever you would like to call it.

This tee is available from Panic Pop Clothing. Click on the picture for more details.

Heart Seeker

Heart Seeker by Ben Chen

I have to admit that until I saw this tshirt I had never thought about the dark connotations of the Wizard of Oz story. You have to wonder where the Tinman would get a heart. Is there an organ donor system in Oz ? I like to think that he ended up with the Wicked Witches heart which would make an amazing back story to this artwork. He just looks so mean here.

This tee is available in both mens and womens styles. Click on the picture for more info.

Hide And Seek

Available from Hide and Seek

Generally I don't like photos on tees, mainly because I don't like big solid rectangles that never seem to sit right when you are wearing them. This is one of those surprising exceptions. The way the animal shapes are cut out of the scene remind me of a web page where the pictures have not loaded properly only reversed. It is a really clever representation of a brand called Hide and Seek. What I really like more than anything else though is the grossly elongated legs on the elephant. It brings it up to the giraffes level so it seems they are looking each other in the eye and gives it a Dali-esque appearance.

This tee is unisex. For more information click on the picture.

Monster Movie

Splice Black from Electric Zombie

Monster movies have been around for decades and as a result so have monster tshirts. What I really like about this is the way it flips the whole thing around becoming a monster making a movie. I feel a little sorry for the mindless creature as the film strip is getting tangled in his mummy bandages. This is a really fun tee in a disturbingly creepy way.

This tshirt is available now from Electric Zombie. Click on the picture for sizing and pricing options.

Tiger Barcode

Tiger Barcode by SF Design Studio

Great design, truly great design, manages to convey a lot of information using a minimum of elements. This tee is a textbook perfect example. The barcode morphing into a tiger walking through tall grass tells the story of modern human civilisation destroying other creatures habitats. the black artwork on a white tee is really stark and punches the message into your face. Greenpeace and other similar organizations could learn a lot from this.

This tshirt is available from SF Design Studio in a wide variety of styles and colors. Click on the picture for all the options.

Albert Fish

Albert Fish from Trust No One

Bizarre tees always capture my attention so when I saw this one I just had to blog about it. Fish are very alien to us and this shows that in a very Jack The Ripper way. The fierce gruesomeness of the fish is enhanced by using anthropomorphism (adding human attributes to animals). The black of the suit and bowler hat really draws your eye to the face first. Once your mind grasps the concept you start seeing all the little details like the scaled hand holding the knife.

This tshirt is available from Trust No One Clothing. Click on the picture for more info.

Aphrodite

Aphrodite from Twin Srpnt

I have never seen the Goddess of Love portrayed on a tshirt like this before. In fact I have never seen it anywhere. The artwork is a curious mix of old world Roman and modern pin up styles of art, which somehow works amazingly well. I really like the way her long flowing hair forms the company's "S" logo in the background. The red roses blend in yet are still readily recognisable which is the mark of a talented artist.

Aphrodite is available in both mens and womens styles, although the print is smaller on the womens. Click on the picture for more info.

Fresh Air

Fresh Air by _S3_

There are a lot of post apocalyptic tee designs out there but I have never seen one like this before. These birds have adapted to the toxic air by wearing gas masks. If you look closely they also sport tattoo style markings. It is an nice little detail that rewards those looking closely. I really like the fact that the sky is a cheery blue, as if the encroaching grey clouds are creeping in to destroy the last remnant of life.

This tshirt is available from Designs by Humans. Click on the picture for more information.

Electric Buddah Head

Electric Buddah Head from Enclothe

Sorry there have been no posts for a few days. My laptop died and I had to replace it. Not to worry as it is all systems go once again. I figured that I would kick things off with this funky tee. This one belongs in the hard to classify folder as it is a mashup of a few different elements. The first thing is the obvious steampunk feel to the illustration. (I think that it borders on the line of mechpunk as well personally.) Luckily it makes great use of a red color palette makings it stand out from any similar tees. According to the website the head part of the artwork is Buddah. Personally I would not have guessed that looking at it. To me it conjures up images of idols worshipped by tropical island tribes. The sort of thing Indiana Jones would stumble upon.

This tshirt is available from Enclothe. Click on the picture for pricing and sizing options.

Sumo And The City

Sumo and the City from Hidaki

The thought of a breakdancing Sumo warrior really appeals to me. It brings to mind the dance battles that have become a part of mainstream television these days. With the Sumo being a traditional warrior battling for respect and honor it makes a nice juxtaposition. East meets West. Old meets new. The color scheme gives it a fresh funky look that really makes it stand out.

This tee is available from Hidaki. Click on the picture for more info.

Siddhartha

Siddhartha from Miles To Go

I am one of those people that tends to come across things differently than most people. I first came across the story of Siddhartha via the Pete Townshend (of The Who fame) song. Years later I learned that the song was actually based on a book by Hermann Hesse. I eventually tracked down a copy of Siddhartha and read it to see what all the fuss was about. As a result when I came across this tee I was really excited. It is not everyday you come across shirts based on novels, especially ones that mean a lot to you.

This tshirt is available from Miles To Go Clothing, a company that does designs based on famous books. Click on the picture to be redirected to their website.

Catch Me Mommy

Catch Me Mommy by Pink Frog Limited

It is not very often that a cute tee captures my attention but this one warmed my icy heart. It seems that all creatures love their mommy. There is such a sense of fun in this that it just makes you smile. Just look at the pure joy on the youngsters face as she flies through the air, knowing she is going to be caught. Mothers always have a way of making us feel safe. The thing I really like though is the color palette used. The earthy natural tones are a refreshing change to the pinks, baby blues and pastels that are usually used for cute tees.

This tshirt is available on a wide range of tee styles and colors. Click on the picture to see all the options.

Tshirt Fail

I really don't need to explain this one. As a music lover the pure stupidity of this astounds me, so much so that I will not even link to the site that I found this on.

Sesame Street Thriller

Sesame Street Thriller from Carte Postale

I thought it was time for a fun tee and this fits the bill perfectly. According to the site this was inspired by the Sesame Street gang auditioning for Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Personally I would never have guessed that, probably because there is no obvious M.J. reference. When I first saw the characters turned into zombies like that my mind conjured up a story where Oscar was infected by toxic waste in the garbage can, in turn infecting the others.

Either way it is a cool shirt. I just love those blank staring eyes. This is a limited edition tee so if you want one click on the picture to be taken to the website.

Traditional Greeting

Traditional Greeting by paulobbruno

As the saying goes "The simple things are always the best". The problem is you always end up thinking why hasn't someone thought of that before, or even worse why didn't I think of that. I know for a fact that I would never have come up with the concept of a hand on a hoodie but I really wish I had. It is just so clever. When fully zipped up it shows a hand in the "stop, back off" sign. However when partially unzipped it transforms into the Vulcan traditional greeting sign. You can change your clothing to suit your mood just by moving a zip. I love that idea.

This hoodie is available from Threadless. Click on the picture for pricing and sizing.

The Captains Head

The Captain's Head by Blxman77

I always wondered why those weird looking Captains hats were shaped like that and I am sure that I'm not the only one. This tee is exactly the type of surrealistic thing that I love. You just know that people are going to do a double take as they pass. I really like the prim and proper look on his face, almost as if he is ignoring the fact that there is a ship on his head. I can't help wondering if the seagulls flying around are going to leave any droppings on his immaculate jacket. The one thing that really seals the deal for me though is the eye patch. It gives a slight sense of evil piracy to the piece and just throws it a little bit more out there.

This tshirt is available from 9 Fountains. Click on the picture for pricing and sizing.

Flagrante

Flagrante from Pampling

This really cracked me up when I saw it. It is a great play on the discrepancies between a real mouse and the Disney version in a really fun way. That sneaky rodent has just been caught out in a torchlight beam stealing all the food. The shadow on the wall really shows up how unusually weird shaped Mickey actually is. It really made me stop and think about just how insanely proportioned he is.

This shirt is available from Pampling in both mens and womens styles. Click on the picture for more information.

Atlantis

Atlantis from Venus Fallen

This is one of those tees that sort of takes you by surprise. It has a lot going on which just makes you want to study it and try to figure it out. Firstly your eyes are drawn to the spacemen at the centre. Then you start noticing the rockets, ufo's, cities, fish and weird statues. About the time I noticed the pyramids near the bottom I realised that the whole thing is a giant pinball machine.

According to the description on the website this is "Based on the concept of a society’s ability to launch itself into outer space making its home in the stars". I am not sure about that myself. I just think it is a really cool and fun retro styled tee. There is no need to get all Erich von Däniken about something as humble as a tshirt.

This tee is available from Venus Fallen as a limited edition. Click on the picture to be directed to the website for more info.

Samurai Punk

Samurai Punk by uniique.com

There are a lot of samurai tees out there but I have never seen anything come remotely close to the awesomeness of this. The massive print has such a sense of movement and menace. I love how the subdued colors used in this work so well with the bright orange of the shirt, they just compliment each other so well. Also I can imagine this as a tattoo on a Yakuza boss, wrapping around his body. It is just a great tshirt

This is available now from Design By Humans. Click on the picture for more info.

Doodle Face

Doodle Face by Butch Butcher

A wee bit of pure craziness today. I chose this because it sums up how I have been feeling lately. So many ideas and things going on in my mind that I can't keep them all straight. The chaotic look of all the characters climbing over each other and fighting for space really sets this apart from all the other doodle shirts out there. It makes amazingly good use of a limited color palette really making each of the cartoons stand out on its own.

This tee is available from inkfruit. Click on the picture to see it on the website.
