The Seven Deadly Sex Crimes Of Dr. Freakenstien

The Seven Deadly Sex Crimes Of Dr. Freakenstien from Ultra Trash

With so many tee brands out there it is really encouraging to come across something fresh and different. Ultra Trash have a unique niche making fake grindhouse cinema style designs. Grindhouse refers to the low budget films of the 1960's and 70's, brought back to fame in recent years by Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. You don't just get a shirt from these guys, you get a package. Each package includes the shirt (printed inside and outside), a poster of the movie and other features. I really like this Dr. Freakenstien design and if I wasn't so broke atm I would snatch it up.

Daydreamer

Daydreamer by Mitohapa

I hate to tell you this but you can't own this tee. That's right this is another for the denial files. Originally it was for sale at Tee Fury way back in 2008. I had a look around but couldn't find it anywhere else which is a shame. Oh well you can't own them all.

Ritual

Ritual from DeKay

I am not a hippie type spiritual person so I will be the first to admit that I have no idea what the imagery on this tee represents. I do really love the surrealistic aspect of it though. It is a beautifully balanced piece and the patches of pale pink really make the black artwork pop in a way that I would not have expected.

This shirt is available in both mens and womens styles. Click on the picture for ordering options.

Threadless Vending Machine

This is so cool. Custom tshirt company Threadless has set up vending machines in shops. I am not sure how many others there are apart from the one shown. I do know that there is no chance of ever seeing one where I live. Guess I will just keep buying my tees online.

Get Rich Or Die Mayan

Get Rich Or Die Mayan from Look At Me Shirts

If you are anything like me you are sick and tired of hearing all the doom and gloom stories about how the world is going to end this year. I have lost track how many end of the worlds I have survived so far but I am still alive and kicking so I am not worried. I know this tee would get a lot of laughs and would love to own it but I have already blown my budget so I will just have share the picture. Oh well.

Uncle Shredder

Uncle Shredder from Frozen Soda

It is always a joy to discover a new tshirt brand and when they have artwork this good you can expect big things in their future. At this point this is the only tee they have and it is a limited edition of just 50, never to be reprinted. The awesome thing about that is the odds of bumping into anyone with the same shirt as you are nearly nonexistent. Seriously indie. You can check it out for yourself by clicking the picture.

Rubber Band Duel

Rubber Band Duel by Ben Chen

This tee really made me laugh so I just had to share it. The image of Clint Eastwood about to have a rubber band shoot out just appeals to the little kid in me. So much so that I adopted a "my balls are the size of watermelons" walk and serious squint when a dust bunny went past in the breeze like a suburban tumbleweed. I even whistled that bit from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly that everyone knows. The thing I like most though is the fact that the joke is so subtle. You have to really look to see it but once you have you just can't unsee it. It is a reward for the more astute people out there.

This tshirt is available from Threadless in both mens and womens styles. Click on the picture for more information.

The Diver (Trapped)

The Diver (Trapped) by fathi_dhia

It is not everyday that you come across a tee that elicits a strong emotional response but this one really does for me. The oversized print really makes it feel as though the diver he is trapped. The cracked face glass and raised hand draw you into a sense of urgency while all those frenetic bubbles transform it into panic. I think this shirt is just amazing.

You can grab this at Designs By Humans. It is only available in mens at the moment. Click on the picture for more info.

Shirt Cult Review

Tshirts from Shirt Cult

Sites where you buy tees generally fall into one of three categories. Firstly there are the big well known brands that employ lots of artists. Secondly there are the small independent labels that usually have only one or two artists. Thirdly there are the competition style sites where thousands of artists are striving for your attention. Then there is Shirt Cult which incredibly seems to be smack bang in the middle of all three. Run by just one guy, known only as The Beard, it has a small selection of shirts to choose from like an independent. However it employs the work of various artists like one of the big boys and has the quality to match. There is no competition aspect but you can contact them if you have a design idea. It is quite an enigma. I only found out about them due to the Tee Gazettes 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway last month.

I have just received four tees from them, each one by a different artist with different styles and each brilliant. The printing on each is great, soft without the heavy plastic ink feel a lot of tees have. Three are printed on American Apparel stock while the fourth is on a similar 100% cotton tee.

If you want a seriously cool tee or just want to check out the mystery for yourself click on the picture to head on over to their site.

Do More Than Exist

Do More Than Exist from Bsclly

I don't generally feature straight typography designs but I have made an exception for this one. Rather than a witty slogan here we have arguably the best piece of life advice you will ever come across. With work hours getting longer, email and phones ever present, it is so easy to fall into the trap of existing instead of living. The statement is captured perfectly by the artwork. It is big, bold and very easy to read.

This tee is available from Bsclly. Click on the picture for sizing and pricing info.

Candy Maniac

Candy Maniac from Lab Candy

I thought it would be cool to showcase a tee just for the ladies today and I found a ripper. Yes I know it has a monster on it be she is pink. A pink candy monster. You know you have a sweet tooth, don't deny it. I really love the blissfull expression on her face as if to say, this is better than sex. Lollipops, pieces of candy and wrappers are stuck in her fur. I can just imagine a Cookie Monster type eating frenzy happened just before what we see here.

This tshirt is available from Lab Candy. Click on the picture to be redirected to their site.

Elephant In The Room

Elephant In The Room from Beautiful Nightmare Clothing

I am not going to really talk about this tshirt much. Me discussing anything to do with religion seems to bring all the nuts to the yard. What I will tell you is this awesome tee is limited to just 40, never to be reprinted. I am not sure how many are left but if you want one you better get in quick.

Medusa

Medusa by matt_diecast

Just as every tshirt designer does skulls at some point, every tshirt blog features them at some time. They are such a staple that it is very hard to find anything new or exciting, but when you do you just have to share it. In this instance a horned skull has been transformed into part animal, part machine. Both types of tentacle styled appendages mix together to give it a freakishly evil appearance.

This tee is available via zazzle in a wide range of styles and colors. Click on the picture for all the options.

Firing Squad

Firing Squad from Perception Apparel

I am one of the multitude of people who grew up with cartoons of a certain wascally wabbit who always won in the end. It was really strange for me as I live in a country where rabbits are an introduced species that have become a pest. We don't want them to win. This is why this tee really spoke to me when I saw it. The image of a bunny about to be exterminated by a robot with multiple arms holding guns, rockets and flamethrowers may seem over the top but in reality would not be enough. I think Australia really needs an army of these robots.

This tshirt is available from Perception Apparel. Click on the picture for more information.

Rolling Deep

Rolling Deep by Biotwist

Living under the sea is a fantasy that everyone has at sometime during their childhood. Sadly mine were never like this although I wish they were. The image of people in old school diving suits cruising around the ocean beds in a low rider is one that just stays with you. Once you have seen it you can't unsee it. I really like the dude in the back with the ghetto blaster. It makes me think that we are looking at the bad section of the underwater neighbourhood.

Sadly you can't own this tee. This is one for the denial files. It has been up for voting at Qwertee for quite some time now but has been buried and forgotten, so I doubt it will ever get printed there. It is such a shame.

Ka Bloom

Ka Bloom by Richard Lee

A tank or gun shooting flowers was such an iconic image of the sixties that it became a cliche and as such stopped being used. In fact it has not been seen in so long that it is really fresh again. That is great because it is such a strong visual image with a message. The angle the artist has used with the point of view under the turret is quite striking and gives it a real freshness. What I really like though is how the flowers reach right up onto the neckline.

This tshirt is available from Threadless in a few different styles. If you want one I suggest getting in quick because I can see this being really popular. Click on the picture for more info.

Robot Dogs Playing Poker

Robot Dogs Playing Poker by zomboy

As a child in the eighties I have vivid memories of a picture of dogs playing poker that hung on the wall in a friends games room. At the time it was wondrous to me. It wasn't until later in life that I discovered just what an iconic picture that was. Fast forward to present day and that picture has been given a geeky makeover. Famous robot dogs including i-dog, K-9, Muffit II, R.I.C, Aibo, Goddard and Preston have replaced the hairy variety. It is just so cool in a very nerdy way. Popular culture at its best.

This tee is available from Redbubble in a variety of colors. Click on the picture for more info.

Millenium Zeppelin

Millenium Zeppelin by sketchboy01

Mixing Star Wars with steampunk has been done before but never with results like this. Re-imagining the Millennium Falcon as a zeppelin airship sounds silly but the end result is just stunning. I really like the way it has been portrayed as an old poster. It fits the theme beautifully. For those who are interested there is also a video that gives you some idea how much work went into the design.

This tee is available from We Love Fine. Click on the picture for more information

Returner / Bed Bugs

The Returner from Gravetakers
Bed Bugs from Sleepy Dan

It is Friday the 13th and as a result I just have to post something dark and twisted. I didn't want a black tee though as it is so cliche. Luckily I came across two awesome tees that fit the bill.

First is a punk rock zombie on a white shirt. About now I should insert a joke about how punk rock never dies, but I wont. It actually makes me feel old as I can remember seeing punks when I was a little kid back in the eighties.

The second is a brilliant take on the old saying "Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite". The giant bugs crawling up to attack the boy hiding in the blankets is like something from a Stephen King novel. Even more impressive is the yellow/brown artwork on a yellow shirt that really makes it stand out from the pack.

These tshirts are available from Gravetakers and Sleepy Dan respectively.. Click on the pictures for sizing info.

How It Ends

How It Ends from R U Reppin

It is 2012 and in case you have not heard we are all going to painfully and horribly die as the world ends this year. There has been a lot of speculation as to just how this will happen. I quite like the idea that the Earth will be hit by a giant solar flare because I can work on my tan as it all ends. If it actually happens like that I will have this tee in mind at the end, as it would certainly make it more bearable. The cartoonish Sun punching the Earth in a galactic boxing match just appeals to my warped sense of humor.

This tshirt is available from R U Reppin. Click on the picture for sizing and pricing info.

Astronaut

Astronaut from Look Zippy

This is one of the funniest and smartest pop culture reference tees I have seen in quite some time. The idea that not only did monkeys have a choice whether they wanted to go into space or not, but that they had to study and graduate collage to do it is just brilliant. Can you say Planet of the Apes ? The only thing that I don't like about it is the actual design placement. I feel that having it down low like that you would feel that everyone was staring at your crotch.

This tee is available from Look Zippy. Click on the picture for sizing and pricing.

Psychic Tshirts

Mother's Psychic T-shirts

This is truly one of the weirdest things I have come across. It is one of those things that could only happen in Hollywood. The idea is you purchase a tee for a lot of money and a famous psychic, Lucinda Clare, uses it to tell your destiny. The cynic in me is basically screaming scam, it is just a way to move clothing to suckers. I am keeping that part of my psych muted though as proceeds go to  the Uk's largest charity for elder people, the Age. That seems really fitting to me as it is generally the elderly who are scammed by so called psychics etc.

Most of these tees have already been sold so if you want one you better get in quick. Mother's Psychic T-shirts

Melting Hearts

Melting Hearts from Beautiful/Decay Apparel

Combining elements that have no business together and making them look good is an art form. It is something that is decidedly hard to get right. Luckily there are artists like Josh Clancy producing art of the caliber seen on this tshirt. It is just an amazing combination of photography, vector illustrations, 3D shapes and typography. The monochrome treatment with splashes of pink  help tie all the elements together.

This tee is available from Beautiful/Decay. Click on the picture for more info.

Samurai Boy And Panda Robot

Samurai_ts_vertical by David Sossella

I love the Japanese style cartoons. A lot of the time I tend to walk into a room halfway through and have no idea at all what is happening but they are still cool. This tee personifies that to me. A samurai boy with a robot panda is pure nonsense but you find yourself wanting to know the story. Those huge claws the panda is sporting and blood splats on him hint at the gory violence you just missed, heightened by the overall red tone of the piece. The boy looks dejected, maybe angry as if the panda stole the fun by doing all the fighting.

Fechured Apparel Tshirt Review

The Hats What Cheese Head from Fechured Apparel

When I was younger I was told that you can tell the true value of a company by looking at how they handle the small details. If that is true then indie tshirt company Fechured is worth more than any other tee company I have come across. One of the newer brands out there I only found out about them because of the Tee Gazettes 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway. Now I am not sure if my package got special treatment due to being a prize or not but when I received it I was blown away.

I am used to getting tees in plastic envelopes so when this one arrived in a box it really stood out. Snuggled inside the box, wrapped in blue tissue paper were a sticker, 2 business cards, a hand written note on the company stationary and the tee itself was in a plastic bag. From an email conversation I know this is the first tee they have sent to Australia. I wish they had sent more business cards as the two I have wont last long. I just know people will be asking about this shirt.

The tshirt itself quite easily stands up to expensive brands, it just oozes quality. A vibrant print on a good quality cotton tee is just the start. The neck tag is printed on and there is a stitched tag on the bottom hem. Remember what I said about the small details.

Fechured is a unique brand, which is not something you come across every day in such a saturated market. Their designs take everyday sayings and use different words to relay them. This results in tees that take some cerebral action to figure out, but reward you with the joke in the end.

If you are looking for a tshirt that stands out from the crowd head on over to their site by clicking on the picture.

Kill Bird

Kill Bird by Alex Solis

I bought one of these tees a while back and I am really pleased to see it get a reprint. After seeing mine a lot of people have asked me where they can get one. It is just one of those shirts that everyone seems to love, whether they get the Kill Bill reference or not. Females tend to think it is cute while males seem to think it is badass.

This tshirt is available from Threadless. Click on the picture for more info.

Virtual Reality

Virtual Reality by Davi Augusto

It is not very often that I come across a science fiction themed tee that just blows me away. My reaction when I saw this was Oh - as in My God. While the crazy amount of detail and subject matter are just amazing, it is the angle of the piece that really makes it interesting. The diagonal overprint gives it a sense of movement bring life to an inanimate object. This is a great shirt for Ghost in the Shell fans.

This tshirt is available from Designs By Humans. Click on the picture for sizing and price.

Buddha Libre

Buddha Libre by Pale Horse

Having a religious figure as a wrestler seems really weird at first but it actually does make sense in a strange way. We all know wrestling is fake, therefore Buddha would not really be fighting. In fact it is considered entertainment, purely for fun and enjoyment. So  Buddha would be promoting fun not fighting. There is also the size of him. He looks like a wrestler. I wonder what his special move would be?

This tee is available for a limited time from Pale Horse. Click on the picture for more information.

Cassetten Qualle

Cassetten Qualle from cyroline

Everyone who is old enough will remember a time when their cassette tape got jammed. This usually resulted in having miles of tape unspooled. The memory that comes vividly to mind for me was when a Cheech and Chong tape that I had borrowed from a friend got chewed in my crappy tape player. I can clearly remember holding it my hands with a sinking feeling in my stomach. I have thought about that incident many times since yet I would have never come up with this tee design. I really like the way the unspooled tape forms a sea creature. I am not sure if it is living in the cassette case of if it is part of a whole. I guess you could interpret it either way. I wonder how many tapes ended up in a watery grave because (according to comic books) all it would take is some gamma rays or toxic waste to make them come alive like this.

This tee is available from Cyroline. Click on the picture for more information.

Natural Beauty

Natural Beauty from Sharp Shirter

Usually I am not a fan of metallic inks as they tend to look tacky. Occasionally you come across one that gets it right and this is a great example. The art itself is stunningly detailed so having it printed in a single color is a good choice as it stops it from being too overpowering. The flowers and leaves that make up her dress are so well done that I find myself wishing for a bigger preview so I can see all the detail better. With her hair flowing up and behind like that it gives the impression that she is falling diagonally across the tee, which is a really nice touch.

This tshirt is available from Sharp Shirter. For sizing and price click on the picture.

Very Horny - Nekkid Tees Review

You Are Getting Very Very Horny from Nekkid Tees

I am please to announce that I have received one of the tshirts that I won in the Tee Gazettes recent 12 Days Of Christmas Giveaway. What a great way to start the New Year. This one is from Nekkid Tees who specialize in funny designs and have an impressively large selection to choose from. The shirt itself is American Apparel stock and the printing is excellent. (not a big surprise as they use the quality Spreadshirt platform). The way it is packed is a cut above most as the garment is sealed in a clear plastic bag before being put into the plastic shipping envelope, effectively double bagging it. As someone who has received wet tees in the past (it was winter and the plastic envelope was ripped in transit) I found that really pleasing. I can't wait to wear this at the pub, it is sure to get a few laughs (hopefully more than that as well).

Click on the picture to check it out at Nekkid Tees and also take the time to have a good look around. There are tons of designs and the prices are great.
